Group Support for Addiction Recovery

There are several stages of addiction recovery and no one stage is enough to ensure a long live of sobriety without relapse. The first stage in getting clean would be an intervention or the addict admitting they have a problem that needs attention. The second step would be to attend a detox center to help with any withdrawal symptoms. You can’t begin a rehab program until your body is clean of any drugs. The third step of course includes a type of addiction treatment program. These can include inpatient or outpatient programs.

it’s the last step however that is the most important; it’s the longest part of recovery and one that sometimes gets overlooked. Aftercare, sober living and support groups are vital in ensuring a recovering addict stays focused and determined to stay clean. There is virtually a support group for any type of addiction that you can think of. The two most popular support groups include Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) and Narcotics Anonymous (NA). Most of the “Anonymous” support groups follow a 12 step type of program and rely heavily on support from other members who suffer from similar addictions.
